Hounds and Jackals is an ancient Egyptian game played around 1800 B.C. The game is played on a board with 58 holes (29 for Hounds, 29 for Jackals) and 10 pegs carved with the head of either a Hound or a Jackal.

This game is the ancestor of Snakes and Ladders played 2000 years earlier!!

The aim of the game is to move all 5 of your pegs around the board, and place them in the 5 holes closest to the top of the palm tree before the other player!

Although the exact rules to the game were lost in time, the most excepted rules are based upon the work of R.C. Bell, author of ‘The Board Game Book’.
